...and he can still surprise me.
I'm not kidding.
So yesterday I participated in this fabulous, and fun Google Hangout with Mom It Forward. I love how focused Mom It Forward is on families. Yesterday's hangout focused on Gratitude, and I was so pleased to be invited to participate. Jill, Meg, and Heather are women I want to have a sleepover with, and I would force Lindsey to come too because she's brilliant.
In case you missed it, I've embedded the video below.
We talked about gratitude individually, for our children, and with our spouses. For me, gratitude is all about the action, it's showing, in addition to the words. Part of gratitude is seeing the world with wonder, and not expecting that you are owed anything. After 12 years of marriage, I don't have any expectations of something grand, nor do I pine for that. A quiet dinner together, sounds divine.
This year we were surprised with my husband qualifying for his company's Vegas trip. We were excited to have a chance to be somewhere, without our kids. It doesn't happen ever for us. However, the return flight from Vegas on Sunday, brings us home after our daughters perform in the annual Church primary program.
Since it would disappoint our girls, and be a bit of a chore to find people we trust to watch our girls on short notice, I suggested to my husband that he take his best friend from high school. I know. Just hand me the wife of the year award right now. Thank you.
I don't know about you, but if one of my good friends invited me to hang out on a trip they earned with their ceaseless hard work, I would be beyond grateful. Boys are different, so I'm hoping that my husband's friend from high school realizes how lucky he is, and scratches my husband's back from time-to-time.
Honeymoon October 2001 in Maui, HI
Last night, my husband returned home from work after he'd been out of town for the last couple days, and the girls were thrilled to see him, and then instantly upset that he's leaving again. I love how our little one jumps up excitedly and runs to get the door for my husband when she hears the garage door open. It makes me so happy to see my daughters respond with joy when daddy gets home.
At The Kitchen in Sacramento 2013
This husband of mine walked in last night, exhausted, and said hello. He dropped off his bag and then walked out to get something out of the car. He returned with a Magic Trackpad for me, for our anniversary. Awesome right?
Oh, and as an accessory, a new iMac.
I am rarely silent. Let alone stunned.
I have an undying love for electronics. Maybe it's because I was raised in Cupertino. Maybe it's because I spent years working in the semiconductor and consumer electronics fields when I lived in the Bay Area, or maybe it's because electronics are simply insanely awesome, but I'm still a little bit in awe of this gorgeous computer.
It's so pretty. So shiny. So sleek.
I hope my hunny has fun in Vegas.
While he's gone I'll have to keep my new iMac warm.
